Frequently asked Questions

Here you will find answers to some of the questions people often ask before getting in touch. If there is anything else you would like to know, please feel free to contact me.

I offer therapy to people over 18 years of age.

This free 20 minute video call (WhatsApp, FaceTime or Teams) gives us the opportunity to ‘meet’ before you book your first session. It’s a chance for you to ask any questions you may have and for me to ask a few too, so together we can decide whether we feel we are the right fit for one another.

Not at all. Many people come to therapy knowing something doesn’t feel quite right but finding it difficult to put into words. We can begin wherever feels most comfortable for you.

You can tell me as much or as little as feels comfortable. The pace we work at is always in your hands. You may find yourself sharing thoughts and feelings you’ve not spoken about before, and I may ask gentle questions to help guide our conversation.

Many people begin with weekly sessions, as this can help create a sense of continuity and allow the therapeutic relationship to develop. I also offer fortnightly sessions where this feels more appropriate.

We meet in a peaceful, quiet therapy room in a semi rural village in County Durham, easily accessible from Bishop Auckland and Barnard Castle.

We will agree a quiet walking route of around 50 minutes that feels suitable for you both in terms of pace and location.

If the weather is not suitable, we will either meet in my therapy room or online.

Yes. I offer this on Teams, FaceTime and WhatsApp video.
I do not offer telephone sessions.

Couples therapy is offered in person in my private therapy room

A 55 minute therapy session is £70 for an individual. For a couple the fee is £85.

Payment is made by bank transfer BACS when booking your next session.
Unfortunately, I am unable to accept card payments.

There isn’t a simple answer. Some people come for a few sessions to work through a particular difficulty, while others have longer term therapy. We will review your work together and decide collaboratively what feels most helpful.

Everything we talk about is treated confidentially. There are a small number of exceptions, which I will explain during our first conversation, and these are also outlined in my therapy contract.

TA is one of the approaches that informs my work. It helps us understand how our experiences can influence the way we think, feel and relate to others. I explain anything we use in therapy in straightforward language, so there’s no expectation that you know anything about it beforehand.

Finding the right therapist is important. That’s why I offer a free introductory conversation. This gives us the opportunity to talk about what has brought to you to therapy, answer any questions you may have and explore whether working together feels like the right fit.

I ask for no less than 3 working days notice ( excluding weekends and Bank Holidays) to cancel or amend your booked session.

Supervision

Find quick, straightforward answers to common questions about my supervision services.

I offer supervision to both newly qualified and experienced therapists and counsellors.

I offer this online, in person in my therapy room and outdoors.
Fees are £70 per 55 minutes.

Alongside ongoing supervision, I offer additional supervision in my specialist areas of experience, including addiction, sight loss and Higher Education.

This can compliment your existing supervision and may be arranged as a one off session, or an agreed number of sessions, depending on your needs.
